Memberships with the Whitecourt & District Public Library are free for permanent residents of the Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County.Permanent resident of the Town of Whitecourt or Woodlands County is defined as anyone residing in either geographic location for longer than 6 months consecutively.Individuals residing in Whitecourt or Woodlands County for less than 6 months are considered temporary residents and are required to pay a refundable deposit, as outlined in Schedule C, to obtain temporary library membership.Individuals residing outside Whitecourt or Woodlands County will also be required to pay a refundable deposit, as outlined in Schedule C,  to obtain a temporary library membership.The temporary library membership deposit is refundable when each of the following is met:The Library card is returned;All outstanding items on the account are returned; andNo outstanding fines or fees exist on the customer’s account.  Refunds for temporary library memberships will be made up to 1 year after the expiration of the membership after which time the deposit is forfeited to the Library. Regular library memberships are valid for 1 year.  Temporary memberships are valid for up to 6 months.

To obtain a Library membership, individuals must be at least 5 years of age.Individuals 18 years of age or over are required to provide government issued photo ID as well as proof of current residential address (Note:  a P.O. Box or General Delivery is not considered proof of residential address).Acceptable forms of government issued photo ID include:Valid drivers’ license;Government issued photo health card;Secure Certificate of Indian Status Card;Valid passport. Acceptable forms of proof of current residential address include:Valid drivers’ license (with land location listed, not a P.O. Box);Utility bill (issued within the last 2 months);Insurance document (current within last 2 months);Vehicle registration document (current within last 2 months);Rental lease agreement or receipt (current within last 2 months);Mortgage documents (current within last 2 months);Mail received from a government agency (within the last 2 months). Individuals between the ages of 5 and 17 are required to have a parent or legal guardian present when obtaining a Library membership.  The parent or legal guardian is required to present photo ID and proof of residential address for themselves, on behalf of the minor under the age of 18.

Library memberships are valid for either 6 months or 1 year from issuance date or renewal date.DO NOT discard your current Library card even if it has expired since there is a $2.00 charge to replace the Library card as outlined in Schedule C.To renew your Library membership, customers are required to present their existing Library card, verify the name, address, phone number(s), email address, etc. on file.Before a Library membership can be renewed, all outstanding fines and fees on the customer’s account or any linked family member accounts must be paid in full.

You can search for books, DVDs, audiobooks, video games, and more using the online library catalogue, called TRACpac.  Visit the library catalogue at tracpac.ab.ca and login using the barcode number from your library card and your PIN. Regular items may be renewed up to two times, as long as there are no holds on the items. Some exceptions may apply. Free wi-fi and public access computers.We have a microfilm viewer for those who require this technology.Projector rentals are available with a refundable $100.00 cash deposit. The full deposit is returned when the projector is returned without damage or missing parts.We have computers available for public use.Library staff can provide technical support when using the library’s public computers, the library printer, or your own device. We periodically offer technology classes and one on one technology coaches for a variety of topics.Printing or Photocopying is available for $0.20 per page in black and white and $1.00 per page in colour. Non-profit and bulk discount requests can be emailed to jkubelka@whitecourtlibrary.ab.ca Laminating is available for $1.00 per item in “ID Card,” “Letter,” and “Legal” sizes.Scanning to e-mail and flash drives is available free of charge.
